The Stonewall Democrats of Dallas membership is once again raising money to support North Texas’ premiere fundraiser for AIDS Services Organizations – LifeWalk. This year, the group’s contest to name its LifeWalk team captain based on the amount of money raised was won by Judge Carlos Cortez!

LifeWalk, hosted by AIDS Arms, takes place Sunday, Oct. 10, at Lee Park, located at 3301 Turtle Creek Blvd, Dallas, TX 75219. Registration and festivities start at Noon. At 1 p.m., Judge Cortez will lead a contingent of Stonewall Democrats on a 3.2 mile walk through Turtle Creek and Uptown area.

You have an opportunity to not only walk Stonewall Democrats, but you can make a financial contribution also. Go to www.lifewalk.org and join our Stonewall Democrats Team and make a donation (suggested $30).

Money raised at LifeWalk will benefit 10 North Texas agencies that work with the HIV/AIDS community: AIDS Arms, AIDS Interfaith Network, AIDS Services of Dallas, Bryan’s House, Greg Dollgener Memorial AIDS Fund, Legacy Counseling Center, Legal Hospice of Texas, Resource Center of Dallas, The Women’s Chorus of Dallas and Youth First Texas.  All these agencies either treat patients, counsel clients, provide testing, act as caregivers or work in the prevention of HIV/AIDS.

With the Dallas area ranking No. 1 in newly-reported HIV infections in the state of Texas and a projection of 7,000 new HIV cases by the year 2012, Stonewall Democrats of Dallas felt it was important to continue its 10-year LifeWalk tradition.

Over the past decade, Stonewall has donated more than $10,000.  Stonewall would like to thank all the 2010 Team Captain contestants that participated. Judge Cortez (of the 44th Civil District Court) raised $404.  Coming in second was Judge Tena Callahan (of the 302nd Family District Court) at $199, and in third place is Judge Ernest White (of the 194th Criminal District Court) at $126.

If you would like to bump our $799 total to $1,000, please visit www.lifewalk.org and click on the “donate” button and search for the “Stonewall Democrats” Team.

On September 22nd, the U.S Senate failed to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell. That night at our monthly general meeting, Stonewall Democrats of Dallas passed a resolution

Andy Smith introduced the resolution, which reads:

Whereas, President Obama, Democratic House and Senate Leaders have promised action on DADT and ENDA,
We’ve had control of congress and the White House for almost two years without meaningful progress on any issues of significance to the majority of LGBT Americans.
And whereas Stonewall's published strategy is to hold our elected democrats accountable for their actions,
Therefore be it resolved, that the Stonewall Democrats of Dallas remind our Democratic leaders that our support for them will be provided in direct proportion to their ability to deliver on the promises to our community
And be it further resolved that we strongly encourage Stonewall National to join us.
